The Montana Department of Environmental Quality is hosting a public presentation on the draft Gallatin River assessment on Thursday, July 14th, 2022, at 6:00 pm.
Based on specific concerns of river users and stakeholders, the MDEQ compiled a draft assessment of indicators of water quality in the Gallatin.
Specifically, of observations made during algae monitoring events, 25% of samples exceeded the State of Montana DEQ defined threshold for water quality impairment. The MDEQ would like to know what is fueling algal blooms of nuisance proportions, and if excess nutrients may be contributing to this prolific growth.
In the meantime, the MDEQ is accepting public comment on the draft assessment. Comments can be made via email, to jmadison@mt.gov, or while attending the meeting on July 16th in-person or via Zoom (Zoom link below). The public comment period is open until August 22, 2022.
The public informational meeting will occur at Base Big Sky Community Organization (285 Simkins Drive, Big Sky, MT.) on Thursday July, 14th, 2022 at 6:00 pm.
